Comedian arrested in bank robbery | News

Citrus Park, Florida -- Deputies say they got the last laugh on a stand-up comedian who allegedly robbed the same bank twice in one week.

Investigators say 27-year-old Jeffrey Lluis robbed the SunTrust Bank on Ehrlich Road in Citrus Park on Tuesday, and then robbed it again Thursday.

During the first robbery, the suspect implied he would "blow the bank up" unless he was given money. He fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Investigators looking at the surveillance video saw a strong resemblance between the suspect and Lluis, who has been arrested several times in the past, including an arrest for a 2007 bank robbery.

A detective met with Lluis on Wednesday and interviewed him, but Lluis was not placed under arrest at that time.

Despite the investigation, Lluis allegedly returned to the same SunTrust bank on Thursday morning and again demanded money from the teller.

A witness saw the suspect fleeing in a car and was able to provide enough information to once again lead detectives to Lluis.  

He was arrested on two counts of robbery and also several violations of probation.

Lluis is a local stand-up comic who works in the Tampa Bay area. Brian Thompson, general manager at Side Splitters Comedy Club in Carrollwood, said Lluis performed there a few times this year.

"I was as surprised as anybody. Very shocking to hear that in the community, especially someone you've met," said Thompson.
