Hillsborough County, Florida-- The eighth annual National "Dump the Pump" Day takes place today, June 20, and the Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority (HART) hopes to highlight the upside of public transportation for the county's senior citizens.

Tampa, FL -- You get the feeling if Amazon.com were single, the Hillsborough County Commission would be getting down on its knee to propose. 

"I think what we are approving today is a very small dowry a potential great corporate community marriage," said Commissioner Kevin Beckner.

Board chair Ken Hagan agreed. "This is an outstanding opportunity," he said.

And County Commissioner Sandy Murman likened it it to a hurricane with Amazon's feeder-bands attracting more businesses, creating a mega-storm of job growth for our region.

Tampa, Florida - As part of an effort to meet new, stricter federal reliability standards, Tampa Electric will soon begin trimming and clearing trees along some of the company's high-voltage power lines.

In 2011 and 2012, Tampa Electric sent low-flying helicopters to conduct Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) aerial surveys along the company's high-voltage power lines.

Mayor Buckhorn looking to bring free Wi-Fi to urban parks

Tampa, Florida -- Visitors to Tampa's urban parks may soon be able to enjoy the great outdoors and stay connected without having to use up any minutes on their cellular plans.

On Tuesday, Mayor Buckhorn released a Request for Proposals (RFP) for a provider who can offer free, outdoor wireless internet access in Tampa's urban parks.

"Wi-Fi will be a draw, particularly for the thousands of visitors who come down to the parks throughout our urban core, and a great amenity for the residents who live around them," said Mayor Bob Buckhorn.

Emergency electric bill payment help offered in Hillsborough

Hillsborough County, Florida-- Are you struggling to make ends meet? If so, you may qualify for financial assistance from the Family and Aging Services Department's Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program for Hillsborough County Residents, also known as LIHEAP. 

Program coordinators say LIHEAP is a federally funded initiative that helps low-income residents with payments on their delinquent electric bills.
