3,000 lose power in South Tampa

Tampa, Florida --About 3,000 TECO customers lost power in South Tampa tonight.

TECO reports it had a problem with circuits at a substation. 

The power failure began around 6 p.m., and all but nearly 200 customers had their power restored by 8:30 p.m.

TECO said power should be restored to the remaining customers by midnight.

Hillsborough Dept. of Health: Free STD testing April 29

Tampa, Florida - It's National STD Awareness Month, and in honor, the Hillsborough County division of the Florida Department of Health will offer free HIV and STD tests on Monday, April 29.

According to department reps, one in two sexually active people will get an STD by the age of 25...and most won't even know it. 

They say the only way to find out is by getting tested, which is why they're making that as easy as possible.

Toss unwanted meds during "Operation Medicine Cabinet"

Hillsborough County, Florida-- As part of local law enforcement's ongoing effort to crack down on illegal pill mills and prevent prescription drug abuse, they have schedules a "drug take-back day" for this Saturday, April 27. 

"Operation Medicine Cabinet", as they're calling it, will allow residents to drop off unused or expired prescription medications- anonymously and with no questions asked- so as to prevent potentially dangerous drugs from getting into the wrong hands.

Transportation Disadvantage Coordinating Board meets Thursday

Tampa, Florida -- Hillsborough County's Transportation Disadvantage Coordinating Board is meeting at 6 p.m. this Thursday, April 25.

The meeting and annual public hearing provides an opportunity for the public to speak to the board about issues facing those who are transportation disadvantaged in Hillsborough County, and receive information on Medicaid non-emergency transportation changes.

The meeting will be held in the second floor boardroom of County Center at 601 East Kennedy Blvd. in downtown Tampa.

Free Youth Fire Rescue Summer Camp offered

Tampa, Florida -- Hillsborough County Fire Rescue is looking to spark a career interest in at-risk middle and high school students to become our nation’s next firefighters, emergency medical technicians and paramedics.

The Fire Rescue Summer Youth Academy offers an intense two-week summer camp for youths interested in learning more about those careers and wanting to gain actual hands-on experience.

The camp will be held June 17-28, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., at the Fire Rescue Training Facility at 3210 S. 78th St. in Tampa.
