GED test offered on computers in Hillsborough County

Tampa, Florida – Hillsbrough County Public Schools officials have announced a new and improved way for residents to take their GED!

In addition to the old-"school", paper-and-pencil way of testing, the county now has the test available on the computer at the Adult and Career Service Center located at 5410 N. 20th St. They say the traditional version will be available until the end of 2013 at the following testing centers:

Tampa Bay, Florida-- The City of Tampa and Hillsborough County, in partnership with MOSI, will host the 2013 Tampa Bay Hurricane Expo from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, at the Museum of Science & Industry. .

National Senior Heath and Fitness Day

Hillsborough County, Florida - Hillsborough County Aging Services will host an open house on National Senior Health and Fitness Day at several of its Centers. Each Center will offer a variety of exercises and activities on Wednesday, May 29, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Clearwater, Florida (BBB) - The Better Business Bureau reminds us that Memorial Day is a time to honor those who serve and remember those who have died in war. But sadly, it has also become a key opportunity for scammers to target those who are serving or have served their nation, especially elderly veterans.

The Better Business Bureau urges consumers and donors to be aware of scammers that feed off the military.

Police: Fire was a mom-daughter suicide pact

CITRUS PARK, Florida - The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office revealed that the fire at a Citrus Park home on Saturday may have been part of a suicide pact between a mother and daughter.

Investigators found suicide notes from Nancy Lowe, 52, and Allison Clark, 12, in the home after the fire on Timber Brook Court.

UPDATE: Battered mother, daughter injured in house fire

CITRUS PARK, Florida -- A mother and daughter have both been Baker Acted following a house fire, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies located several suicide notes in the home of Nancy Lowe, 52, and Allison Clark, 12.

According to witnesses, the fire started inside the garage of the home at 6603 Timber Crook Court at approximately 3 p.m. Saturday, May 25.

Hillsborough Commission on Status of Women meets this week

Tampa, Florida-- The group that advises the Hillsborough Board of Commissioners on women's issues, the Commission on the Status of Women, is meeting thisweek.

County officials say the meeting will take place from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28 on the 26th Floor Conference Room B at County Center.

If you have an interest in women's issues in Hillsborough County, you're welcome to attend. The county center is located at 601 E. Kennedy Blvd in Downtown Tampa.
